President Pranab Mukherjee today greeted people on the eve of spring festivals.
"On the joyous occasion of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Chetti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, I send greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens celebrating these festivals in different parts of the country," he said in a message.
"May the celebrations promote among our people the values of tolerance and fellow feeling and strengthen their traditional bonds of amity, understanding and harmony," he said.
As these festivals mark the advent of spring, Mr Mukherjee described them as "a time of joy, hope and creativity as nature unravels its limitless bounty" .
Governor of Manipur KK Paul has extended a warm Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba greeting to the people of the State.
"Let the occasion be the harbinger for a happy and prosperous life for all the people in the State irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Let us rededicate ourselves to promote the friendship and unity among the different communities of the State ," the Governor said.
Chief Minister O Ibobi has also extended a warm greeting to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Cheiraoba.
The occasion which marks the parting of the old year and onset of the new year is celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety, the Chief Minister said.
"On this occasion, let us resolve to strive for the well being of all the people in the State and renew our thoughts and work with unity, dedication to make Manipur a peaceful and prosperous State," the Chief Minister appealed.
Th Lokeshwar Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly and Deputy Speaker MK Preshow Shimray have also extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Cheiraoba.
