Imphal, July 12 2009:
SP Worlingla (28) of Kasom Khullen, who is recuperating after a deadly assault by a group of men led by her brother-in-law (husband's elder brother), recounted her near-death experience today in front of media persons.
Worlingla said that she had been enduring severe harassment at the hands of her husband Chance long before her brother-in-law Simreiso of Tusar (Tuisem), presently staying Nagaram, thrashed her almost to death on May 28 .

Unable to bear the persistent torture of her husband, Worlingla left Chance and was staying with her parents about a year back.
Worlingla disclosed that Chance has extra-marital affair with one Lungshimwon of Sangshak and the affair was approved by his parents.
"As we have not been divorced and I'm still alive, they have not been married according to our customs", she said.
"In addition to repeatedly asking me to leave his home, Chance beat me several times", Worlingla claimed and added when told to leave, she asked whether he was not the father of their two children, but her husband paid no heed.
"On May 28, Simreiso asked me to ring up my sister-in-law (his wife) at Simsiang in Kasom Khullen.
As I tried to dial the number, a heavy object hit me from behind.
Moments before losing consciousness following the assault, I saw two other men", Worlingla recalled.
"Simreiso and his men must have left me there thinking that I was dead but by the grace of God I'm recuperating" she said.
In a scornful voice, Worlingla said that all those who attempted to murder should be imprisoned for life.
Taking part in the press meet held at New Checkon here, Worlingla's elder sister Mercy conveyed gratitude to all women groups, church groups and all the people who helped in the treatment of Worlingla.
Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Shannao Long member Moithang asked the authority concerned to hand over the culprits involved in the brutal assault if the authority is unable to punish them.
