Imphal, July 12 2009:
The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has put forth several questions before the Manipur University authority while also demanding the fulfillment of their demands within seven days.
In a statement, the president and secretary of the MUTSU asked why the MU authority is hell bend upon implementing the 7.5 percent reservation for the ST with regard to admission in various courses in the university after knowing well that there is a provision for local adjustment even though MU is a Central university.
The statement also pointed out that MU has been in the news for all the wrong reasons because the VC and the Registrar is running the university without accountability and responsive administration particularly in recruitment and admission policy.
The MUTSU statement posed when will the recruitment to the post of the Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Assistant finance officer take place while also querying when the result of the interview for the post of lecturer in the department of Political Science will be declared.
The tribal students' body asked reason for the delay in announcing the interview result in the recruitment of lecturer in Political Science department while adding: 'Is it because the post is exclusively reserved for the ST candidates?' .
Acknowledging the varsity authority's special recruitment drive for SC/ST, the statement pointed out that the said special drive is contradictory.
The statement pointed out that the Ministry of HRD has issued directives to fill up the backlog vacancies at the earliest failing which funding from the Central government will no longer be available.
The MUTSU has also expressed dissatisfaction on the system practiced in the Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), which is under the Manipur University.
It pointed out that the institute has 30 Group A faculty members and two in the non-teaching staff.
It asked whether this is in proportion of the 31 percent state reservation norms.
It also asked on what ground the interview for the lecturer in the Physical Education department was conducted.
Demanding the MU authority to fulfill their demands within seven days, the MUTSU has also warned of launching agitation in collaboration with several tribal students' bodies in case their demands are not fulfilled.
