A discourse on "Focus�Sri Lanka: Eelam IV" organised by the National Reserch Centre, Manipur was held at Nupilal complex today with Prof N Sanajaoba, Retired Col Haobam Bhuban and Retired Wing Commander Ahanthem Hemchand as the moderator and main speakers respectively.
The ethnic conflict is occurs in the North Eastern region of the country including Manipur like occurring in other parts of the globe.
The discussion was held with an objective to bring an end to the ethnic conflicts for the peaceful existence of the people made to suffer by the conflict.
In the discussion, Prof Sanajaoba talked on the background of the Eelam IV.
He said, in Sri Lanka, many revolutionary groups were formed but finally only the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) emerged.
The struggle for a sovereign country for the Tamils settled in Sri Lanka which started more than 25 years ago became a well known revolutionary struggle in the world.
In the struggle that had seen many wars, suicide attacks and bomb attacks, around 70,000 lives had been claimed.
Shri Lanka government commenced a big offensive against the Tamil rebels in the last two years.
Before the offensive was launched, the LTTE occupied one third of the total areas of the country.
In the rebel dominated areas, they set up courts, run schools and civil administration.
LTTE launched intensified form of struggle even by setting up suicide bomb squad.
But the massive offensive launched by the Sri Lanka government and killed its chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran.
Now, the faith and living condition of the people of the reigon could not be ascertained as even though its chief killed, the conflict situation cannot be said ended.
