Imphal, July 03 2018:
President Ram Nath Kovind has assured that the Manipur University crisis would be resolved at the earliest.
A delegation of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) led by ex-Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today held a meeting with the President.
During the meeting, Ram Nath Kovind reportedly stated that the Manipur University crisis should be resolved at the earliest as students and their academic careers are important both for the State and the Nation.
A 25-member delegation of MPCC led by CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi left Imphal for Delhi on June 25 to meet Central leaders on various sensitive issues of the State such as Framework Agreement, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Indo-Myanmar border issue, Manipur University crisis etc.
During the past one week or so, they met many Central leaders and they submitted memoranda on the key issues.
However, due to tight schedule of the President, they had to wait till today.
In the meantime, Indo-Myanmar border row erupted again.
Hence some of the team members had to leave Delhi to take stock of the situation.
Nonetheless, the remaining delegates led by Gaikhangam who is also the chairman of the high level committee constituted by MPCC which investigated into the MU crisis talked with President Ram Nath Kovind for about 40 minutes today.
The President after listening and noting attentively assured to look into all the issues.
The MPCC delegates handed over a few memoranda to the President, informed a source.
