Cop held for impersonating CBI

A 45-year-old personnel of Manipur Rifles was arrested yesterday by Imphal East police for impersonating as a CBI Inspector.
The impostor identified as Md Azad Khan of Yairipok Tulihal Toupokpi, a rifleman of the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles has been taken into 5 days police custody till July 3 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today.
Sources said he had impersonated an Inspector of the CBI by the name L Jayenta and allegedly threatened some individuals.
After the CBI Anti-Corruption Cell received a complaint, it forwarded the complaint to the SP Imphal East district as the CBI had no officer named L Jayenta.
He was earlier deputed as driver of a CBI team, added the sources.
15 years RI for drug smuggler: The Special Court ND&PS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance) has sentenced Lalthang Lhouvum (48) to 15 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh yesterday.
It may be noted that Lalthang Lhouvum was arrested from Kasturi Bridge along with 3 kilograms of opium on August 19, 2014 by a joint team of City Police and Narcotic Cell.
He was earlier convicted by the same Court on June 26 .
Announcing the quantum of punishment, A Noutuneshwari Devi, Special Judge ND&PS appreciated and commended the efforts made by the Investigating Officer of the case, Thiyam Brojen Sub-Inspector of City Police Station in connection with the case.
