World Blood Donor Day observed

The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Imphal East district branch organized a voluntary blood donation camp today, in relation to "World Blood Donor Day" at JNIMS Hospital Blood Bank and Transfusion Unit, to supplement the scarcity of blood in the State.
World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14 every year worldwide on the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood grouping system.
The donation camp started from 9:30 am and collected blood from 35 donors.
During the camp, IRCS chairman Dr Y Mohen Singh, secy Dr RK Nimai Singh, IRCS Imphal East chairman Narendra Ningombam along with other executive members of IRCS distributed certificates, caps, badges, etc to the donors.
Meanwhile, the Young Vaiphei Association (YVA) organised a one day blood donation camp under the theme "Friends of the distress" at RIMS Blood Bank today.
More than 17 volunteers including women donated blood to mark the conclusion of International Blood Donation month, said a statement of YVA Joint HQ secretary Pauneihlal Haulai.
