Nemcha Kipgen reaches out to the poor amid COVID crisis

Kangpokpi, June 30 2020:
Minister Social Welfare and Cooperation Nemcha Kipgen reached out to the poor people of Keithelmanbi and Tujang area in Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency today.
Earlier, the Minister had also reached out to the poor section of people in Kangpokpi area and provided essential items of rice, dal, potato, etc as part of her humanitarian services during the COVID-19 crisis in the state.
In the distribution programme today, around 110 poor people including widow, widower and aged people of Keithelmanbi area of different communities were distributed rice, dal, potato and other essential items by the Minister at the Keithelmanbi Community Hall.
The Minister also reached out to more than 150 people of Tujang area and distributed similar items at Ngahmun Community Hall.
Nemcha Kipgen said that the pandemic is not just a public health crisis, it goes far beyond that and it is different from other significant crisis such as World Wars or natural disasters, and the global shutdown is something the world has never seen in the past.
She continued that the nationwide lockdown owing to the pandemic has especially impacted the vulnerable class in getting food and has also left a lot of daily wage labourers in a state of panic as unemployment has made it difficult for them to survive.
"My modest forefront agenda during the pandemic COVID-19 is ensuring food security and preventing the people especially the genuinely poor and needy to fall prey to starvation", asserted the Minister, while adding that protecting people from the pandemic and containing its spread is also her immediate priority.
She further said that everyone also practice the act of giving and not only taking before exhorting well to do people to focus their energy and wealth on helping the genuinely needy and poor people in the community.
Meanwhile, Nemcha Kipgen also appealed to the people of Kangpokpi to remain vigil and continue observing preventive measures despite the relaxation in lockdown.
The Minister further made strong appeals to all inmates of the various Institutional Quarantine Centres to cooperate with the Government and district administration in combating COVID-19 and to sincerely abide by the quarantine SOPs and guidelines.
