Imphal, February 09 2019:
A recreational park each at the 27 wards under the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) is in the offing under the Attal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) of the Ministry of Urban Development.
According to an official source, necessary funds for the transformation and development of Imphal under AMRUT, have already started being sanctioned.
Under the said mission, the Ministry will bear 90 percent off the total expense while the State will bear the remaining 10 percent of the expenditures.
The State Annual Action Plan compiled by the State Government for the said mission included not just the development of the 27 wards covered by IMC but also development of the water supply schemes.
The plan also contained components for the construction of a park each for the 27 wards, at a costs of around Rs 11 lakh per park.
The source continued that as per the guidelines of the Ministry, a total of around 300 sq metres is required for each of the recreational parks but looking after the congested space in Imphal area, locations will be scouted (even if the area mentioned in the guideline is not found).
Development of Indira Park and BT Park are also in the plan.
The source then explained that a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister and which was attended by MAHUD officials, IMC Mayor and Councillors, was held on February 5 regarding the construction of the parks cum green spaces and during the meeting, the authorities concerned were given clear instructions to begin work on the construction at the earliest.
Speaking about the water supply works in Imphal area under AMRUT, the source stated that the funds sanctioned under AMRUT will be used to replace the old water pipes buried in and around Imphal.
