Imphal, October 05 2016:
The Coordination Committee on Fuel Adulteration (CCoFA) has announced that it wil go ahead with a highway bandh from October 8, if the Government of Nagaland does not respond positively to their demand that a crackdown be launched against all those who are involved in fuel adulteration in the North East region.
The stand of the CCoFA has also been sent to the Government of Manipur, the Prime Minister and others concerned.
In a statement CCoFA said that Manipur is the largest 'beneficiary' of the fuel adulteration racket being carried out from Dimapur for the last 15 years or so and expressed hope that the people of Manipur will understand the reason behind the ultimatum served.
Sources, including the police, are of the opinion that 70 to 80 pc of the adulterated fuel consignment make their way to Manipur, added the statement.
CCoFA appealed to the people of Manipur not to view the highway bandh as being against their interest.
In case the hand of CCoFA is forced, the bandh will be enforced from Dimapur-Assam border itself, it added.
