Sharmila gears up to float new political party

Mobilization works have been started for settingup anew political party on October 10 and the name of the new political party would reflect the people's fight and yearning for justice, peace, understanding and love, said anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Sharmila at Cheirap Court complex here today after she was acquitted from the charge levelled against her for attempting to commit suicide.
Speaking to mediapersons, Sharmila said that she has been acquitted by an order of the Court after it was kept reserved for sometime.
She said that her long democratic non-violent struggle was projected as an attempt to commit suicide by the police but the charge levelled against her by police has been quashed by the Court.
Saying that she is only changing the mode of her struggle against AFSPA, Sharmila stated that she would now focus on electoral politics so that she can fight against AFSPA from a political platform.
A new political party will be formed with all sections of people for bringing justice, peace and love in the State, she said.
She also clarified that she did not seek appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi when she was in Delhi.
She met Arvind Kerjiwal.
During the time with the Delhi Chief Minister, Sharmila was asked if she would like to meet the PM and she replied that she had no intention to meet the Prime Minister if it was not for a good cause.
According to the order passed by the Court of CJM Imphal West, which was kept reserved by the Court after the final argument hearing, the prosecution failed to show that the alleged accused person fasting from 5.10 om of February 29, 2016 to 11 am of March 2, 2016 intended to end her life.
The Court found that prosecution failed to prove the charge levelled against the alleged accused.
As a result Irom Sharmila is found not guilty of the charge of attempt to commit suicide under section 309 IPC, ruled the Court.
