Imphal, January 25 2017:
After an agent allegedly misappropriated NFSA rice allotted for Tamei AC, beneficiaries under Tamei AC have been deprived of their allotted NFSA rice.
S Paul, public leader from Tamei, told mediapersons today the State Government has been allotting 960 quintal of rice for priority card holders and 176 quintal of rice for AAY card holders every month.
Unfortunately, one agent has been misappropriating the allotted rice.
As such, the beneficiaries have not been getting their allotted shares.
Paul said, "Lifting of rice from the godown for Tamei AC was earlier done on contract basis by one Adai.
Now, the charge has been taken over on sub-contract basis by one Megha, former driver of late Z Mangaibou.
Megha has been lifting the allotted rice for Tamei Ac regularly but has failed to distribute the allotted shares to the beneficiaries" .
He said that since Tamei is a hilly area, rice production in the area cannot meet the requirement of the people.
Therefore, people have been depending on the rice allotted by the State Government under NFSA.
Megha has been swindling people of Tamei AC even before NFSA was implemented.
There is no harm in earning a living but to take away the shares of poor villagers will do no good, he added.
Paul further stated that the issue has been apprised to the State Government and expressed hope that necessary steps will be taken up at the earliest.
