Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ph Parijat today inaugurated the Shija Nephrology Department.
Minister Parijat was the chief guest and Dr Kh Palin, Chairman cum-Managing Director of Shija Hospitals presided over the function held at the Shija Hospitals complex.
Delivering the keynote address, Suresh Thokchom, DGM (Operations), Shija Hospitals elaborated on the genesis of Shija Hospitals.
He said that the hospital came into being in 1985 as a consultation chamber attached to a pharmacy at Paona Bazar, Imphal.
The present campus and facility of the hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister O Ibobi in 2002 .
It has taken elaborate effort by the management of the hospital to bring in the full time Nephrology facility in the hospital.
Today Shija Hospitals is the only private hospital set up in Manipur to have a full fledged Nephrology facility with advanced critical care facility as back up, Suresh said.
Dr Guliver Potsangbam, DM (Nephrology), Consultant Nephrologist of the hospital presented an overview of the Nephrology facilities available in the department.
He informed that the hospital today has both diagnostic and therapeutic facility for Nephrology and poised to become the hub of nephrology in North Eastern India.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Parijat lauded the efforts of the hospital and mentioned that Shija Hospitals is today one of the best hospitals in North Eastern India.
He also appreciated the efforts of the hospital to bring in the much needed kidney related care to the state.
He advised the Shija Hospitals to make its service more affordable to the masses.
Dr Palin, Chairman cum- Managing Director, delivering his presidential speech, drew the attention of the State Health Authorities towards the challenges that may arise in the future.
He said that Shija Hospitals is not a competitor to public health care but supplementing it for the facilities not fully available in the state.
He appealed for support of the Government to enable the management of the hospital in making the services more affordable to the masses.
Currently the hospital has to avail itself of loans from banks and financial institutions, which has to be repaid with interest, thereby compelling the hospital to charge from the patients to make the facility feasible.
He expressed his desire to work toward making the Nephrology Department of the hospital, a leading centre with complete kidney solution in the country.
He also mentioned the preparation of Shija Hospitals to enhance facilities to face the future challenges caused by urbanization and life style and make them more affordable.
