Chief Minister, O Ibobi today while reiterating that government is trying its best to confirm the arrest of UNLF chairman RK Meghen appealed to the civil organisations to call-off the general strike they have imposed tomorrow.
Mention may be made that 17 civil organisations with extended support from other organisations are imposing a 15-hour general strike tomorrow starting from 2 am till 5 pm as part of the boycott of Sonia Gandhi's visit in the state.
While personally inspecting the arrangement taken up for inauguration of the three multi-storey women's market-sheds today, Chief Minister told media persons that he contacted Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram over the phone today and discussed the matter of RK Meghen.
When he insisted for facts Chidambaram made it clear that Centre has no knowledge of the arrest of arrest of RK Meghen.
Bangladesh government too has not informed on the matter till date, Ibobi said quoting the home minister.
Government is trying its best to confirm the whereabouts of RK Meghen alias Sanayaima, he reiterated and appealed to the civil organisations not to call a bandh or a general strike on Sonia's "rare" visit to the state, but to receive her with a rousing welcome.
MPCC president, Gaikhangam, AICC general secretary major Ved Prakash, AICC Manipur in-charge Luizihno Falerio also took part in the Chief Minister's inspection at the sites in Imphal where Sonia Gandhi is to visit this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs were busy in roping in people from their respective constituencies for the public meeting at Kangla.
They have been instructed to bring at least 1000 people each so as to ensure a gathering of a crowd of 25,000 at the public meeting.
