Marked by the exuberance of the farmers who sang and dance in gay abandon expressing happiness over their annual harvest, the Louroi Khumhei, post-harvest festival, was celebrated at Khumbong Bazar today.
Organised under the aegis of Youth Development Association, Khumbong, the inaugural function of the festival was attended by Commissioner of Art and Culture P Bhorot Singh as chief guest, Padmashree and Karma Yogi Awardee Dr L Nabakishore Singh as guest of honour and Pradhan of Ngairangbam Gram Panchayat Kh Rajendra Singh as functional president.
At the occasion, Padmashree Dr Nabakishore also presented the pension amount given from his own pocket to 51 persons with disabilities and the prizes of the State level patriotic song competition organised by the Association last month were distributed among the winners.
The winners of the State level patriotic song competition are respectively Y Bimi of Singjamei Thiyam Leikai (Ist position), M Ajoykumar of Kamong Maisnam Leikai (2nd position) and Arunkumar Yumnam of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai ( 3rd position).
Earlier, delivering the key note address, secretary of Youth Development Association, Khumbong L Lokendra observed that farmers in Manipur are most hard working labour force and they deserve a day of celebration.
So the Louroi Khummei is being dedicated to them.
He also lamented the apathetic attitude of the State Government towards the farmers.
In his address as chief guest of the function, P Bhorot observed that it is through hard work that one understands the worth of human life.
Padamashree Nabakishore pointed out that women are shouldering equal responsibility in producing food crops.
So harassing womenfolk by their drunkard husbands should be stopped.
