A meeting of the State Cabinet held today at the conference hall of the Chief Minister's secretariat has taken note of the orders passed by the Gauhati High Court with regard to handing over the case of the infamous July 23 incident of Khwairamband market to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Secretary to Chief Minister, PK Singh stated in a press release that the meeting noted that the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench had registered a writ petition (Cril) No.77 of 2009 dt.
23-12-2009 in Ch Taratombi Devi Vs the State of Manipur and three others as Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No.1 of 2010 dt 23-12-2009 .
According to the press release, the State Cabinet took note that in PIL No.1 of 2010 in Ch Taratombi Devi Vs the State of Manipur and three others, the deliberation at the High Court were on the question whether the investigation of FIR case No.82 (8) 09 City PS, under section 302/34 IPC and 27 (3) Arms Act in connection with the BT Road incident of July 23 was to be entrusted to an independent body other than the state police.
It further stated, the Cabinet noted that the High Court had ordered to send a copy of its order dt 23-12-2009 in PIL No.1 of 2010 along with the copies each of the writ petition, counter affidavit of the respondents and other documents to the Director, CBI, New Delhi for information and necessary action.
The High Court had also directed the Investigating Officer in the said FIR case to hand over all records to the officer concerned of CBI to be entrusted with the investigation of the case.
