IM daydreaming with AA demand: RK Anand

Imphal, January 19 2013 : Congress MLA RK Anand on Saturday said that NSCN-IM is daydreaming with its demand for Alternative Arrangement for the Naga inhabited areas in Manipur.

Speaking to reporters on the sideline of distributing seeds to farmers of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency at his residence today, MLA Anand said that NSCN-IM is building hopes over a dream which will never be realised since it is impossible to have two parallel governments at the same time in any State.

Reacting to the remarks of Naga People's Front (NPF) which regarded the Chandel molestation case as 'too petty issue' to be taken up by a delegation of all political parties to the Prime Minister, MLA Anand asserted that the remarks have shown that NPF is an immature political party.

Moreover, it is a sign of supporting criminals.

It is also very unfortunate that NPF denies the fact that NSCN-IM has illegal designated camps in Manipur and armed cadres of NSCN (IM) are indulging in criminal activities, the MLA added.

"It is a well known fact that NSCN-IM has been carrying out many criminal activities in the state and they are roaming almost freely in the state even though the ceasefire agreement signed between the Naga rebel outfit and the Government of India does not extend to Manipur.

There were many instances where Assam Rifles and NSCN-IM cadres have confronted leading to tense situation in the State over setting up of designated camps by NSCN-IM illegally inside the territory of Manipur", MLA Anand pointed out.

He asserted that the Chandel incident was a criminal act committed by a responsible officer of NSCN-IM, who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, in full public view.

Following the incident, the State Government faced a big problem in trying to control agitation of the people.

It also led to the death of a journalist in police firing to control the protestors.

In spite of all these, members of NPF who participated in the All Political Parties' Meeting termed it as a minor incident and charged the political parties in the state of trying to make an issue out of nothingness, MLA Anand ridiculed.

He went on to say that Democracy does not meant that anyone can demand anything and the government would grant it.

NPF should not indulge in any issue or activities which might disrupt peaceful coexistence and bring disunity among the people of the state.

Commenting on the decision to shut down the only highly effective Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in the State four days after seizure of drugs worth Rs 1.4 crore from Tulihal Airport, the Congress MLA opined that instead of shutting down the unit, the government should praise the sincere efforts of the personnel involved in the seizure and strengthen the unit.

Since Manipur has become a major route of trafficking the various drugs produced in Golden Triangle, the State government should set up more such units to save the future of the society, which will become a society of walking dead in the next few generations if the situation remains unchecked, the MLA observed.

In order to save the society and fight against the menace of drugs in Manipuri society, public, NGOs, CSOs, law enforcing agencies and elected representatives need to work hand in hand.

The Home Minister has called reports from concerned authorities and officials over shutting down of the unit and hoped that the government would soon come up with a solution, he added.
