Imphal, April 17 2011:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed its pain over the Riha village incident where eight persons got killed in the attack mounted on independent MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing.
However, in the same breath, the UNC said it "condemns the government for mishandling of various issues".
The UNC did not elucidate what it meant by "mishandling of various issues" by the government.
Mentionably, Wungnaoshang Keishing representing Phungyar assembly constituency escaped with a minor injury in an assasination bid on his life by heavily armed unidentified gunmen numbering around 30 on April 15 near Riha village of Ukhrul district.
On Sunday, the UNC termed the April 15 incident as "unexpected" and said the Naga body was "saddened" by the incident.
It said, "At this moment of grief and sorrow, we pray God to give courage and solace to the bereaved families and may the departed souls rest in peace and also wish the injured brothers a speedy recovery" .
In the meantime, the UNC has appealed to all sections including individuals, organisations, governments and the media to 'eschew antagonistic remarks' and to 'politicize matters' .
"Peace is universal, therefore let us hail the peace process in the strife torn state of Manipur", said the United Naga Council.
