Imphal, December 16 2013:
In what could be termed as a visible sign of climate change in the State, the temperature in valley region dropped drastically to near zero-degree Celsius yesterday after a short precipitation coupled with thunderstorm.
Surprisingly, the paddy fields were found covered with snowflakes early this morning.
According to the Meteorological Office of Tulihal Airport, the maximum temperature recorded today in Imphal was 24.4 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature was 1.6 degree Celsius.
The temperature could have been much lower in the outskirts of Imphal.

75-year-old Mutum Gopal from Salungpham Village told Hueiyen Lanpao that temperature normally drops to near freezing point and fields are covered with snowflakes in the first week of January, but not in mid December as experienced yesterday.
Most paddy fields at Salungpham Village were found thickly covered with snowflakes in the morning.
The snow could not get melted fully till this afternoon.
Many people are of the view that the State too has begun to experience the impact of climate change and it would cause much more difficulties in the years to come.
