Imphal, December 16 2013:
Following frequent abduction of drivers and threats served by armed miscreants along Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) even in presence of CRPF escorts, the drivers of LPG bullet trucks have threatened to suspend their work if the State Government do not take up effective measures to ensure safety of drivers along this vulnerable highway.
According to sources, some armed miscreants are threatening the bullet drivers frequently along NH-2 even in presence of CRPF personnel, who are being deployed as escorts to the public transporters.
The miscreants extort money from the bullet owners often by abducting the drivers.
The owners' contact numbers are then forcibly obtained by the miscreants from the drivers.
All these unwanted incidents are happening right under the nose of the security personnel.
Moreover, the police are charging Rs.200 to Rs.500 from each bullet truck at every check post along this National Highway.
The aggrieved drivers want the security personnel to check all those illegal activities instead of getting obsessed with the entry fees.
About 100 LPG bullet trucks are in actual operation for the State.
But now, hardly 10 trucks are currently in service along the NH-2.The drivers have threatened to suspend their work if the State Government did not take up proper measures to ensure their safety and prevent unwanted incidents along this highway.
