ATSUM suspends agitation after signing MoU with GOM for conduct of ADC election

All form of agitations under the aegis of the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) in connection with the demand for conduct of the pending election for Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) has been suspended today after signing a Memorandum of Understanding between ATSUM and the Government of Manipur today afternoon.
As per the MoU the State Government had assured to take a decision by the State Cabinet by March 31, 2021 on the issue of conducting ADC elections.
According to an official document made available to media house , the representatives of the ATSUM which had crippled life in hill district yesterday by calling bandh demanding pending ADC election today met the Chief Minister at around 11.30 am at the Chief Minister's Office.
PHED Minister, Losii Dikho, TA& H Minister Vungzagin Valte and Forest Minister Awangbou Newmai were also present during the meeting.
Both side deliberated on the demand of the ATUM for holding ADC election expeditiously.
The meeting took note of various issues involved in the context of involving scenario arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also related demand for creation of Autonomous District Councils for the newly created districts from other stakeholders.
"After thorough discussion, it was agreed that the State Cabinet will take a decision by March 31, 2021 on the issue of conducting ADC elections and related matters, after consulting all stakeholders.
It was also decided to appoint PHED Minister Losii Dikho and Tribal and Hill Affairs Minister Vungzagin Valte to coordinate with all concerned for the same", the MoU agreed.
Following the agreement the ATSUM had agreed o suspend all forms of Agitations in connection with the above issue.
The Memorandum of understanding was signed by Seiboi haokip , President ATSUM, SR Andra, General Secretary, ATSUM and N Geoffrey, Secretary to the Chief Minister of Manipur.
