Senapati, January 05 2013 :
United Naga Council (UNC) has decided to launch a series of intense agitation very soon in pursuance of its demand for 'alternative arrangement' for Nagas in Manipur outside the Government of Manipur, pending settlement of Indo-Naga political issue.
Sources said that a consultative meeting of UNC was held at Senapati today where Naga frontal organisation leaders, MLAs, social workers, former MLAs and former Ministers took part in reviewing the long-awaited demand of an 'Alternative Arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur' .
The consultative meeting resolved that the proposed agitation would be purely a democratic movement.
"We will not subscribe to any form of violence, nor communal approach.
Ours is purely a democratic movement," said UNC sources.
The UNC sources added that they will not support any mob activities and "anyone trying to misguide the movement by way of building up a mob will not be supported by us" .
When queried about the time the UNC is likely to begin its agitation, UNC leaders said, "For the time being we would like to keep the proceedings of today's meeting to ourselves as confidential.
We will spell out at the right time.
But it will not take much time," added the UNC leaders.
In connection with today's consultative meeting, UNC General Secretary Gaidon Kamei is quoted to have maintained, while taking Vision Communications, "we will discuss in details all the pending issues including recent happenings and chalk out our next strategy including action plan to intensify our democratic struggle to achieve our goal." It is said that a UNC delegation is also expected to visit Hebron camp in Dimapur soon and meet the NSCN-IM General Secretary Th.Muivah and Chairman Isak Chishi Swu to get a clear picture about what the Nagas of Manipur can expect in the event of a final solution to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.
