Human rights, sex-education mooted to eliminate crimes against women

Senior Assistant Professor of Damdei Christian College, Priyadarshini Gangte has stated that human rights and sex education should be included in the syllabus from elementary level onward to control violence against women in Manipur.
Speaking on the topic of 'role of women in society' as a resource persons during a day-long International fortnight observation protesting violence against women' organized by District Women Committee Imphal West at the Conference Hall of EEMA, Keishampat Keisham Leikai here today, Priyadarshini said that children should be educated about the various aspects of human rights and sex-education from their early stages of life so as to encourage them to respect women in future.

Pointing out that education, law and religion are three vital elements that control society, Priyadarshini said that we should respect and develop the three entities in order to prevent crime against women.
Urging all the women in Manipur to become an edifice of the society by maintaining their dignity and protecting virtue, Priyadarshini said that empowerment of women is necessary to maintain equal status of men and women in the society.
In order to empower them women and men should respect each other.
Chief Guest of the observance, A Guneshwar Sharma, Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority, explained the various provisions and process of legal action against a culprit who commit crime against women.
Contending that gender based violence predominates crime against women in Manipur, another resource person, N Shreema maintained that because of the prevailing social structure and form of violence in the society, women are made themselves self victims.
