Imphal, January 05 2013 :
The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AMN) has apprised the Union Home Minister regarding the alleged illegal detention of David Kamei, the incumbent I&P secretary of ZSUM on Dec 26 by 10 AR personnel at Longmai.
Apprising the union Home Minister about the alleged detention and torture of David Kamei and Obed Kamei by 10 AR personnel in the night of Dec 26 at Longmai in Tamenglong district on charge of being supporters of UG groups, the AZSU (AMN) memorandum sought the Home Minister's intervention in the matter and discipline the AR as a 'civilised force' in dealing with public in this sensitive part of the country.
The AZSU memo pointed out that David and his friend Obed Kamei were taken into the custody of 10 AR while they were driving along NH-37 in a Hyundai Accent car on the fateful day of Dec 26 around 6pm at Longmai Bazar.
They were detained, blindfolded, slapped and stripped off garments, said the AZSU memo.
David was forced to sit without clothing on his body in the chilly winter night.
Pointing out that the integrity and sanctity of ZSUM is well known by the people of the State as a democratically set up organisation and law abiding one, the AZSU representation said terming one of its executive members as supporters of UGs by the AR is an attempt to tarnish the good image of ZSUM.
It further warned that in the event of any untoward incident and threat to the life of David Kamei, the 10 AR and GoI would bear all responsibilities and AZSU would not remain a silent spectator.
