Imphal, January 05 2013 :
Claiming that failure of the State Government to devolve power has rendered the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the hill districts as completely meaningless, Autonomous District Council Co-ordinating Committee Manipur (ADCCM) has demanded that power should be devolved to the ADCs within seven days failing which it will be compelled to take various intense agitations.
Addressing media persons at the ADC Bhawan Chingmeirong today, Hemjathang Khongsai, Secretary of ADCCM, pointed out that the ADCs have been in existence in India even before Manipur attained Statehood following passing of a Bill by the Parliament.
However, the ADCs remained defunct in the State for almost 20 years.
It was only in 2010 that the election was held.
But, unfortunately, the State Government has failed to hand over the required powers to the ADCs.
He informed that the ADCCM has already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers on September 29 in this regard.
If the State Government fails to comply with the demands of the ADCCM within a week's time, the committee would be constraint to launch various intense agitations.
