1st round of IPPI camp underway
No cases of polio in state since last year

The inaugural function of the first round of Pulse Polio Immunisation, 2012 for the state of Manipur was held at the premises of the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, BT Road, Imphal, today.
The function was graced by Devesh Deval, State Mission Director, Manipur and Dr L Joykumar, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Dr L Sukumar and Dr W Gulapi Addl Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur were also present as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Devesh Deval said that no cases of Polio have been detected in Manipur since last year.
But the polio immunization cannot be stopped at all until eradication of polio completely from the surface of the earth.
He also appealed to all concerned to report the actual facts and figures without any manipulation over the number of children who have been provided polio medicine.
If this is not maintained, then we will never be able to eradicate polio from the state.
He observed that since there are cases of polio in the neighbouring countries of India including Pakistan, China and Afganistan, there is still the need to take precautionary measures in this regard.
Delivering the Presidential speech, Dr L Joykumar said that the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme for this year is being carried out throughout the country under the theme of "Towards a polio free world".
Dr Joykumar explained that the IPPI programeme in Manipur would be carried out in two phases.
The first phase which kick-started today would continue will February 21 while the second phase would be done from April 1 to 3.During the course of the pulse polio immunization programnme around 3.55 lakh children in Manipur are being targeted to be covered.
For this purpose, 3,551 polio booths have been opened across the length and breadth of the state.
