Library orientation programme held

An orientation programme on library management was organised by Manipur Library Association (MALA) at its State Central Library hall, Keishampat today.
The event themed �Community Library: Gateway to global Knowledge Resources' was organised under the joint sponsorship of Ministry of Culture and State's Department of Art & Culture.
Kolkata-based Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation's Deputy Director B Guha, MALA president N Inaocha Singh and State Central Library's Chief Librarian S Tampakleima Devi graced the inaugural programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, B Guha described library as a store house of literary works of renowned persons and important documents while noting that with the advancement of the modern society value of library movement is also growing by leaps and bounds.
Conveying that vision of National Mission for Library is to ensure establishment of a library for every block in order to serve as a community information centre, he expressed confidence that MALA's initiatives will further enhance movement of library in Manipur.
In his address, N Inaocha regretted that number of people in Manipur who read good books is very minimal thereby resulting in the State natives unable to crack various competitive examinations of UPSC.
Noting that there is no dearth of talent among the Manipuris, he wished that more youngsters visit libraries to gain knowledge and lead a successful life.
It is informed that the event would be held in Imphal West district till tomorrow, while on February 21-22 and February 23-24 it would be conducted at Bishnupur and Imphal East districts respectively.
In Thoubal district the programme would be organised on February 25 and 26.
