Imphal, January 09 2011:
Residents of two localities in Imphal, where the Electricity Department introduced aggregate technical and commercial system as part of its power reform are in the despair as the power supply situation still remains poor.
Corporatisation or franchise of power with the new aggregate technical and commercial system was introduced in the two localities, Ragailong and Namdailong in March 2010 as part of the power reform of the state Electricity Department.
Under the new scheme, village authorities are given the responsibility of collecting power consumption charges from the consumers to make the electricity department collect bills regularly.
However, except enjoying a slight reduction in the power consumption charges, residents of these two localities do not get a dedicated 24-hour power supply ensured by the authority while introducing the new system.
Residents told Hueiyen Lanpao, the power supply last hardly three hours a day.
In these three hours there is no interruption in power supply, they said.
They said they clear their power bills regularly but they have received no benefits under the new system.
