Bishnupur NP to opt for coalition

Imphal, January 09 2011:
With the counting process of the recently held local body elections, completed, successful candidates of the MPP along with elected independent representatives have formed the United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) to stake claim in Bishnupur Municipal Council.
With the participation of six out of nine independent councillors elected to the Bishnupur Municipal Council, a joint meeting presided by MPP councillor from Ward No 11 Sougaijam Tomba was held at Imphal today.
Successful independent candidates who attended the meeting include Ch Radheshyam (WN/4), P Leima (WN/8), Th Nilashakhi (WN/5), W Radhe (WN/6), Kh Sanatomba (WN/1) and P Pringchong Chothe (WN/12) .
Apart from minutely discussing the prevailing political situation of the State and arriving at the decision to form UPDF in order to stake claim to head the Bishnupur Municipal Council, the joint meeting unanimously elected Ward No 4 representative Ch Radheshyam as convenor of the Front.
It is informed that the leader of the coalition would be chosen after election of the Council's chairperson on January 10 at GM Hall.
The chairperson is to be elected through draw of lots.
In the election for Oinam Nagar Panchayat, which is under Bishnupur district, the Congress party failed to open its account as the NCP wrested seven of the seats and independent candidates bagged two.
moreover, out of the total of nine seats in Kwakta Nagar Panchayat independent candidates won six of them with the Congress winning only three.
The Congress party also fared miserably in the election to Wangjing Lamding Nagar Panchayat, which is in Thoubal district, as independent candidates swept all the nine seats.
