Kangpokpi, February 07 2018:
Disappointed with the alleged uninterrupted threats and intimidations towards Catholic educational institutions functioning in Imphal valley by some valley based organizations both proscribed and non- proscribed, ATSUM today asked the state Government to provided adequate security towards those institutions presently under threats.
A press communique signed by G Gaisingam, Rights and Reservation Secretary, ATSUM said that Catholic institutions are the forerunner of modern education in the State and their contribution towards the progressive march of the society is tremendous as such they deserve bouquets not brickbats.
As acknowledgement of their contribution towards the society they should be free from all hassles for the sake of bringing forth conducive academic atmosphere.
Expressing perplexity over the alleged deafening silence of valley-based students' organizations who professed to be the advocate of making educational institutions a "Free Zone" but found to be wanting when situations demand, ATSUM urged them to speak up since the present impasse will keep the life of thousands students hanging in balance if not immediately resolved.
ATSUM further said that Catholic institutions are the factories producing illustrious students for the State and their products have brought immense pride to Manipur.
Look at the number of IAS, IPS, MCS, doctors, engineers and intellectuals they have produced for the State, do not their number speak volume for itself ? Why can't we all be grateful for all contributions they have made? asked ATSUM.
It further asked why instead of appreciating their selfless efforts for Manipur why they are being targeted for absurd reason? Seeking the intervention of the State Government for the sake of students studying in those Catholic institutions, ATSUM pronounced that if the matter persists it will be forced to intervene on behalf of the schools, in question.
