Imphal, January 29, 2012:
The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has urged the Deputy Commissioner/RO of Chandel District head quarters to conduct re-poll in six polling stations of 41-Chandel A/C where election to the 10th Manipur State Assembly Election was held yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at its office at Ibethoi Korea Market, Paona Bazaar today, M Tombi, President JD-U said that since all the six polling stations in 41-Chandel A/C including poling station number 40/41, 41/36, 41/59, 41/14, 41/21 and 41/22 were captured by UKLF and INC supporters, repolling should be conducted.
He said that the incident which occurred at polling booth number 41/40 Chakpikarong in 41Chandel A/C where at least 7 persons including three polling personnel, one CRPF personnel, two voters including one woman and one suspected cadre of NSCN-IM were killed in a shoot out was really unfortunate.
The NSCN cadres who were involved in the act should be brought to justice.
The Presiding officer and the two polling officers should be given their total amount of monthly salaries which they otherwise should have received, along with the pensions they will be receiving.
He further stated that the NPF candidate Nunghlung Victor, who was supported by the NSCN cadres, and was also equally involved in the incident, should be disqualified by the Chief Election Officer.
He said that cadres of UKLF who were supporters of Thangkholun Haokip barred all the inner agents of JD-U candidate Chungjalen Haokip from entering inside the remaining five polling stations of 41-Chandel A/C (polling station number 41/36, 41/59, 41/14, 41/21 and 41/22). Tombi also demanded that there should be re-polling in all the six poling booths without fail as it has been virtually over ran by UKLF armed cadres and INC workers and the JDU candidate are under tremendous threats.
