28th Guru Kirtan Seva concludes

Imphal, October 20 2021: The valedictory ceremony of the two day observance of 28th Guru Kirtan Seva organised by Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganappithong, Imphal was held at the residence of Guru Leimapokpam Lakpati Singh of Kwakeithel Nganappithong today.

Notable attendees present include Ratan Thiyam, Chairman of Chorus Repertory Theatre as chief guest.

Samurailatpam Naba Sharrna, Art and Culture; State Co-ordinator, Govt of Manipur, Laimayum Devendrajit Sharrna, former principal Music College, Imphal as guests of honour and Rk Sanatomba Singh, president Gulapi Nata Sankirtana as president of the ceremony.

As part of the event, Thokchom Ibohal Singh, bung yeiba, was conferred with Khwairakpam Leibakmacha Amadi Khwairakpam Wangkhei Nineshing Mana", a citation and a cash award of Rs 5000.The family of Late Kb Wangkhei also honoured Ningthoujam Shyamchand, sankirtana sheisakpa, with Rs 5000 in cash award.

Ratan Thiyam paid his respect to the late founder of Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy and expressed gratitude for his contribution in the field of Nata Sankirtana.

He also expressed his appreciation for L Lakpati Singh for his relentless efforts towards elevating Nata Sankirtana to the level of classical music and bringing more exposure to it.

He added that more discussions are essential to promote the tradition of Nata Sankirtana.

RK Sanatomba stated that 28th Guru Kirtan Seva was conducted to honour the old gurus.

He stated that in the past there were no schools that taught sankirtana.

As such, the contribution of Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy is enormous, he continued.
