Imphal, April 17 2011:
Hundreds of people, mostly students, on Sunday paid rich tributes to two students, Lukhoi and Premananda, who were killed in a police action against students 31 years back.
The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) observed the day as 31st 'Realisation Day' to commemorate the event.
The observance was marked by offering wreaths at the memorial site at Pishum Chingaching.
Students from different institutions from Imphal, Bishnupur, Thoubal and other parts of the state converged at the memorial site and offered floral tributes to the photographs of the two departed students.
In this connection, speakers in a meeting at Hao Ground, Pishum, expressed concern about the threats posed to the indigenous people by the unchecked influx of non-locals.
Leaders of student bodies and intellectuals talked on the need of finding a policy to check the alarming rate of illegal intrusion of outsiders.
AMSU re-affirmed its commitment to fight against illegal immigration in the state and pledged to support re-introduction of the Inner Line Permit in the state.

Many nations and communities in the globe have vanished swamped demographically by outsiders.
Manipur too is facing the same fate due to unchecked influx of foreigners.
The AMSU said the stage has come where the indigenous people could be reduced to a minority.
It said, as per the 2001 Census report, out of the total population of the state, 30% were non-locals and there is apprehension that the percentage could have increased to 33% to 35% in the 2011 Census report.
As per the provisional 2011 Census report, the total heads in the state is 27,21,756 which shows an increase of 4,27,860 heads in the last 10 years.
This has not been officially confirmed for the time being.
Non-declaration of the population figure of non-locals is unfortunate thing, they expressed.
However, they added, as per the electorate roll published in 2009, the total number of non-locals included in the voter list was around 3,66,033.Around 5000 non-locals were in the voter list in respect of Thangmeiband Assembly covering the heart of Imphal city.
This figure should not be taken lightly they pointed out saying that the 'dangerous' point lies in the "assimilating and dominating" process where men from mainland India marry local women and settle owning land.
The observance function was graced by former president of AMSU, L Dilip, presided over by present president, Th Suresh.
Prof Dr W Nabakumar, Dept of Anthropology, MU, Dr M Manimohon, Sr Geographer, Directorate of Census Operations and former president of AMSU, L Sharatchandra attended as guests of honour.
