Thoubal, May 15 2021:
Wangkhem Assembly Constituency MLA, K Meghachandra appealed to the Chief Minister, N Biren Singh to ensure that the ICU beds are functional in Thoubal District Hospital.
Thoubal District Hospital, which is a 100 bedded hospital, has been equipped with ICUs and ventilators.
However, the ICUs are not functional as of today.
As a result, many deaths have been reported due to the lack of functional ICU facilities especially during the increasing trend of COVID-19 in the second wave.
K Meghachandra urged the Government to ensure immediate functioning of ICUs in the District Hospital in order to save the lives of the people from the dreaded COVID-19 .

He stated that the non functioning of the ICUs with ventilators, even in the presence of doctors and staff, has caused many fatalities in the district.
The MLA shared his concern on social media platforms.
He tweeted, "I urge Hon'ble CM@NBirenSingh to ensure the immediate functioning of ICUs in Thoubal District Hospital, which has 5 out of 7 sanctioned ventilators, anaesthetists, doctors & staff, to save lives from covid pandemic.
Non-functional ICUs have taken away many lives".
It may be mentioned that out of the 7 ventilators sanctioned for Thoubal District Hospital, only 5 ventilators are in the District Hospital currently.
The remaining 2 ventilators were reported to have been taken by the State Government.
