Imphal, January 14, 2012:
The Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) have brought out a Charter of Demands regarding the issue of Child Rights and have pressed all candidates contesting under different Political Parties to include the same in their Manifestoes.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Keisham Pradipkumar, Convener, MACR stated that children of the state at present are deprived of their rights.
The minds of children are in an unstable state due to the militarization and armed conflict situation of the state.
Cases of child labour, ethnic conflict, use of drugs and trafficking of children are increasing in the state.
Even though the Right to Education has been implemented in the state and a number of teachers are being recruited under the SSA and RMSA, the government failed to enroll 100% students in government schools.
Only 34% admission of children have been presented in government schools while the enrollments in private schools have climbed up to 54%, he pointed out.
He further said that in order to provide the children's with their rights a State Commission with members who cannot be influenced by political whims should be established.
Further an employment policy for youths should also be initiated.
Above all these, a comprehensive children's policy should also be initiated so that children's can be protected, freed and develop freely.
The charter of demands which was brought out today includes 12 points.
The charter of demands will be made available to all the Political parties at the earliest, he added.
