Imphal, July 03 2015 :
The Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families' Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) will be observing its 6th Foundation Day on July 11 .
Families of victims of extrajudicial killings from various parts of Manipur will attend the programme in Imphal.
Various personalities from other parts of India who have contributed generously to EEVFAM during the case of 1528 extrajudicial killings in the Supreme Court of India will be participating in the programme, said a statement issued by the secretary of EEVFAM.
"On this day in 2004, Thangjam Manorama was 'brutally' gangraped and murdered by the 17th Assam Rifles which was followed by the people's uprising against AFSPA.
As justice on the case is still a far cry, Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust has been persistently organizing a memorial programme on this day for many years.
It may also be noted that it is on this day in 1987, the most gruesome military operation 'Operation Blue Bird' was initiated in Oinam village, Senapati district.
The Committee for Human Rights (COHR), Manipur has also been observing this day as the "Meot Meneige Mayokta Leppa Numit" for many years.
Considering the symbolic significance of the day and also to facilitate the struggle against extrajudicial killings, EEVFAM appealed to all the individual(s), group(s) and organisation(s) to refrain from imposing any form of bandh, blockade or general strike on July 11 .
