Foundation stone laid for rehabilitation centre

A foundation stone was laid for Drug Rehabilitation Centre today at Khergao Makha Leikai in Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency, Imphal East district.
Addressing the gathering, Md Noor Rahman Sheikh, Director (Economic Diplomacy), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India said that the foundation stone is laid as there is a need for a rehabilitation centre to curb the drug menace in Kshetrigao A/C.The centre will be established as a part of the social work collectively carried out by Sheikh Babumacha Memorial Trust and Sheikh Brothers, he continued.
He further said that the centre will be named A Jalil Drug Rehabilitation, Reformation and Skill Development Centre in the campus of A Jalil High School since the land owners of the said school handed over the land to Sheikh Babumacha Memorial Trust.
The centre to be opened will not only treat and rehabilitate drug users but will also provide skill development programmes, he added.
Md Noor Rahman Sheikh further appealed to all the avid drug users not to lose hope and work with determination to be strong pillars of the society instead of being a menace to the society.
President of ABA and intending candidate of Kshetrigao A/C in the upcoming General Election Sheikh Noorul Hassan said that the centre will be opened after getting approval by the Government and authorities concerned and will adhere to the set rules and regulations.
He further stated that Kshetrigao A/C has been badly hit by drug menace therefore the centre will be opened in order to save the drug users from the clutch of drugs and to curb the situation.
Also he expressed belief that locals will extend full support towards the cause.
The event was attended by the chairman of Sheikh Babumacha Memorial Trust, Md Nur Muhammad, president of Islamic Philanthropist Society, Khalil Rahman, former pradhan of Thambalkhong GP Chanam Yaima and president of AMFA M Ratankumar as the presidium members among others.
