Essay writing competition / awareness programme held

With a view to educate and sensitize the real problem and ill effects of drugs and alcohol abuse among the students in Government colleges, an essay writing competition followed by awareness programme was held at the Multipurpose Hall of Thoubal College, Thoubal, under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign, Thoubal district, today.
The programme jointly organised by District Social Welfare Office, Thoubal and NSS Unit I, II and III of Thoubal College, was attended by Principal O Chaoba Devi; DWSO, A Kameshwar Singh; NMBC member Y Laksman Singh and HoD (Chemistry), Dr S Lokhol Singh as presidium members, said a statement of NMBC Thoubal.
Addressing the programme, Y Laksman Singh highlighted the basic purpose and objectives of the NMBC.
The primary prevention of drugs and alcohol abuse among the adolescent youth and students who are vulnerable to the problem of drug abuse.
He also emphasized on the importance of IRCAs in the district for proper treatment of the drug users and informed all the members present to refer the drug addicts to such centres for their treatment and rehabilitation, it added.
Dr S Lokhol Singh explained about the types of drugs mostly abused by the youths in the district.
Both the legal and illegal drugs, if misused without the prescription of the doctor are really harmful to the body, mind and the society as well, he added.
O Chaoba Devi mentioned the importance of attending and participating in such programmes and motivated the students not to indulge in drug abuse.
A Kameshwar Singh briefed about the NMBC and its various activities carried out so far in Thoubal district and its achievements, it added.
Later, certificates and prizes were also distributed to the winners of the essay writing competition.
