100 rice bags meant for mid-day meal sold off; DI caught

Imphal, October 02 2011:
Deputy Inspector of School (DI), Moirang was caught by the police selling out hundred bags of rice which was exclusively meant for school students for their mid day meals, to a grocery shop in Moirang Lamkhai.
The DI, Moirang who was involved in the act has been identified as one Meisnam Nimai (58) of Naransena.
He sold the 100 bags of rice to a grocery shop owned by one Moirangthem Robin (42) of Moirang Lamkhai.
A social worker by the name Khaba who is actively involve in the act is still absconding.
A number of schools Head Master are also involved in the act.
They have reportedly sign in the register and forwarded it to the DI, saying that they have received the whole quantity of rice, when they have not received any amount of rice at all.
The incident took place yesterday at around 1 pm.
A truck (MN05D/8266) carrying 628 bags of rice, for the month of July, August and September, from the FCI godown, Mantripukhri were brought.
525 bags of rice were unloaded at the godown of Moirang Girls High School by DI of Moirang, M Nimai.
Then at around 5 pm in the evening after he have unloaded the whole quantity of rice bags, the truck proceeded towards the grocery shop of M Robin and unloaded another 100 bags of rice.
The members of Moirang SSC reported the incident to the Moirang police.
The truck was later captured by the Bishnupur police at around 8 pm, the same day.
The 100 bags of rice picked up by the police are now in Moirang Police station.
Both Meisnam Nimai and Moirangthem Robin were produced before the CJM, Bishnupur today and have been remanded in police custody for 5 days.
