International Day for Older Persons held

The International Day for Older Persons was organised at various districts of the State today.
The International Day for Older Persons, organised by District Social Welfare office, Thoubal was observed at the counting hall of DC office Complex, Thoubal today.
The theme of the celebration this year is "The Journey to Age Equality" and DC, Thoubal N Bandana, DSO, Arambam Kameshor Singh and DCPO, Thoubal K Anita graced the function.
The DC said that older persons should not be marginalized and portrayed as a burden on the society, but they should be loved, respected and appreciated for their guidance and contributions that they make to the society.

The programme was attended by older persons coming from various parts of the district.
International Day for older persons was observed at the Multipurpose Hall of DCs Office, Kangpokpi district as well.
DC Kangpokpi Lalithambigai K, Addl DC Lalramsang Infimate, SDO Island subdivision Paotimsei Kipgen, Seisat Kipgen, president Senior Citizens Forum Kangpokpi and District Social welfare Officer, N Usharani Devi graced the function as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Lalithambigai highlighted the importance of the observing the day and stated that old age is the period to enjoy for everyone.
She also stated that as per UN reports, by the year 2023 the total old age population of the world will be increased by 46 million and India will witness the increase of old age persons by 12 percent of the total population.
The DC also stated that one of the main purposes for observing this day is bringing about social transformation and economic development by utilising the talent and experiences of older persons and thanked the older persons who attended the function.
She appealed to them to directly approach the District Administration in case they face any problem as the District Administration is always ready to help them.
International day of older persons was observed at Bakshi Ground, Hungpung, Ukhrul today.
Dr Nelson Vashum Director CHRSC/CIAMs-BMA while speaking at the celebration elucidated on the theme "Ageing Gracefully and purposefully".
He mentioned on palliative caring of the older grand parents/elderly persons as the people will be following the same suite in life.
Dr Vashum also mentioned on the roles of Church toward older persons regarding how to honour them and render services of every Christian families.
As a part of the celebration, entertainment and recreational participation programme were arranged and the old people were allowed to demonstrate their respective village folk dance, folk song, group song etc.
A special prayer session was pronounced by the visiting pastors while Ukhrul ADC chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung attended as the chief guest of the international Day of older persons.
Over 350 aged persons from different village of Ukhrul district and Social welfare officer Matthew attended the programme which was jointly organized by Tangkhul Kharar Long and DSWO, Ukhrul.
Indian Association of Geriatric Mental Health (IAGMH) and Share and Care (SAC) in association with NPCHE, NHM Govt of Manipur observed "International Day for Older Persons" under the theme "The Journey to Age Equality" at Multi-Purpose Community Hall, Wangbal in Thoubal District today.
Deputy Commissioner of ThoubaI N Bandana graced the occasion as the chief guest, Chairman of GCM Health Sub Committee IAGMH Dr RK Lenil Singh as the functional president while CMO ThoubaI Dr N Jayantakumar Singh, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Thoubal Dr Ch Memcha Devi and Chairman of CME Sub Committee IAGMH Dr Gautam Saha attended the observance function as guests of honour.
Two senior most citizens from ThoubaI district were honoured with modest gifts while 80 elders were also honoured with simple gifts.
International Day of Older Persons was also observed at Library and Information Centre Kakching, Kakching Phoushupat under the aegis of Senior Citizens Forum Kakching as well as in Tengnoupla district under the District Social Welfare Tengnoupal.
