One convicted for smuggling drugs

A 40 year old man has been convicted for smuggling drugs along Imphal-Jiribam highway while his wife has been acquitted by the Special Judge of ND and PS Fast Track Court today.
The convict is identified as Md Sahabuddin and he was arrested in January 2017 .
The judgment was announced today in an open Court after it was kept reserved after the final hearing on September 17.The trial was on before the Court of the Special Judge from May 2018 and it was transferred to Special Judge ND&PS on the direction of the High Court of Manipur.
Charges were framed against the convict Md Sahabuddin 40 and his wife Jubeiriya Begum of Lilong Tairel Makhong for illegal transportation of banned drugs.
The IO of the case had submitted the charge sheet against the convict and acquitted the wife after the completion of the investigation.
They were charged of transporting drugs items along the Imphal-Jiribam road on January 20, 2017 and were arrested by a team of 8th Assam Rifles at the Permanent Vehicle check post Noney along with 19,000 tablets of Nitrosun-10 Tablets and 10,050 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules while coming towards Imphal from Binakandi in a Hyundai i10 car.
After hearing both the Special PP and defence counsel of convict, the Court viewed that the prosecution had proven without any doubt that 8th Assam Rifles personnel had seized the said drugs.
The Court also acquitted the wife from the case and cancelled her bond and surety.
Soon after the announcement of the judgment, the convict who was on bail was taken into custody and remanded to Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa and directed to be produced on October 8 for sentence hearing.
