Students form human chain in protest against custodial death of SM Manjur in different parts of Lilong

In protest against the custodial death of SM Manjur Ahamed, a native of Yairipok Ningthounai, Imphal East and a constable (suspended) of Manipur police department, during police interrogation on March 30 in connection with the escape of Th Nando, chief of KCP Nando Group from JNIMS, students formed human chain in different parts of Lilong to voice out their dissent today.
Students of Thambal Academy, Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Konjil, teaching and other staff also strongly condemned the inhuman act and formed human chain at the main gate of the school.
Founder of Thambal Academy, Wahajuddin, while speaking to the media persons, vehemently condemned the death of a police constable in police custody and alleged that SM Manjur died due to police atrocity.
He questioned the motive behind the arrest and interrogation of SM Manjur, who was suspended on March 12, by Manipur police in connection with the escape of Th Nando on March 26 from JNIMS Hospital.
He further alleged that SM Manjur Ahemad was made scapegoat of a larger conspiracy involving top officials of the Police Department and other influential persons.
As such, the demands of the JAC against the killing of SM Manjur Ahemad is appropriate and valid adding that students and staff of the school will support any agitation launched by JAC.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO) and Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai Athletic Cultural Youth Organisation (HALACYO) jointly organized a protest demonstration in front of Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa along NH-102, during which students of the school also formed human chain to express their dissent.
Speaking to the media persons, president AMMSO, Shah Nawaz demanded to hand over the investigation of the custodial death of SM Manjur Ahemad to independent agency like CBI or NIA to give befitting punishment to all the persons involved in the case, as per the law.
He also expressed that they will endorse any kind of agitation inititated by the JAC.
Placards which read as "We condemn killing of SM Manjur", "We want justice", "Give befitting punishment to culprits" were used during the protest.
