Properties worth more than Rs 1 Cr gutted

In a devastating inferno, properties worth more than Rs 1 Crore were reportedly reduced to ashes today at Semol village under Saikul Assembly Constituency in Kangpokpi district.
Semol village comprising more than 70 households is located around 26 Kms away from Imphal under Saikul police station.
The incident occured this evening at around 4 when the village Church secretary's residential house and his grocery-cum-stationery shop near the house caught fire following a short circuit.
The house belongs to one Thangkhopao Haokip (40), s/o Haujathang Haokip who is Semol Baptist Church secretary.
His wife Lhingboi (38) is a housewife who runs a grocery-cum-stationery shop near their house.
The nearest fire substation is at Lamlai located around 15/16 Kms from the village.
The fire brigade reached the spot after everything was reduced to ashes.
According to the Church secretary, except an A Star car parked inside the garage all other properties have been reduced to ashes in the fire that broke out due to a short circuit and the gas cylinder caught the fire and exploded adding more fury to the fire.
Properties including medical items worth Rs 1 lakh, grocery items worth Rs 25,000/-, stationery items worth Rs 10 lakh which included school uniforms, text books, note books, etc, Church building construction amount of Rs 8.80 lakh, Semol Women Self Help Group money of Rs 85,000/-, Rice 60 bags worth Rs 81,000/- and other properties yet to be estimated have been gutted in the fire while the value of the residential house is estimated at Rs 24 lakh approximately.
Lamlai police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
No casualties have been reported in the fire.
