Irilbung killing: Irate locals dismantle houses of accused

Imphal, December 29 2011:
An irate mob dismantled the houses of the five persons, who were allegedly involved in the abduction and subsequent brutal killing of Chowkidar of Iribung Water Supply Scheme Soram Ibomcha and his son, Yaiphu, at Chanam Sandrok village of Imphal East district today.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, local club and Meira Paibi organisation of Chanam Sandrok village today organised a public meeting at the community hall of the village in the morning.
After the meeting, the irate mob stormed the house of the main accused identified as Takhellambam Romio alias Romi (28) son of Rajen at Chanam Sandrok Mamang Leikai.
After dismantling and ransacking the house, the mod burnt down the house.
It may be noted here that the main accused is still absconding.
Later, the mob went to the house of the other four accused persons, who have surrendered to the police and dismantled their houses as well.
The mob, however, did not cause much harm to the house of Lantham Radhabinod, when the elder brother and elder sister of Radhabinod requested them that there were two women inside the house who have delivered babies recently.
The house of Takhellambam Sakhenba was also spared from major damage as Hero, the younger brother of Sakhenba, who is soon to marry, fainted when the mob began to ransack the house.
Instead of ransacking the house further, the mob engaged themselves in saving the life of Hero.
Later on, the local people resolved to cast out all the family members of the five accused from the village permanently.
The public meeting also appealed to the JAC formed against the killing not to do anything unwanted against the innocent villagers of Chanam Sandrok, who have given the assurance of helping the police in tracing Romeo and warned that no one should provide any shelter to absconding accused.
It may be recalled here that the Chowkidar and his son were abducted in the night of December 7 by armed cadres of KCP (MTF) Kesho Meitei group in connection with monetary demand of Rs 20 lakh from PHE Department and their bullet-riddled bodies were found in the morning of December 16.Out of the five cadres of the outfit involved in the brutal double murder case, four have already surrendered to the police.
