Meet on Manipuri literature held

A literary forum on 'Trend of Manipuri literature outside Manipur' and a literary meet was held at Shillong, Meghalaya today organised by the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya, a statement informed.
H Behari Singh, convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Gopal Chandra Barman, regional secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Regional Office, Kolkata and Yengkhom KB, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya graced the opening ceremony of the event as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Dr Chirom Rajketan Singh, Assistant Professor, Manipuri Department, Kha Manipur College, Kakching presented his paper on the topic, 'Novels and Short Stories outside Manipur with special reference to Meghalaya'.
The second paper of presented by Ashangbam Netrajit on 'Poetry writing outside Manipur with special reference to Meghalaya' .
Speaking at the occasion H Behari Singh urged all patrons of Manipuri literature to work hard for the development of Manipuri language and literature.
A poetry reading session was also held during the literary meet session.
Rajamani Nongthomba, Kavi Ratna awardee, and Advisor, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya was the moderator of the function.
The poets who read out poems in the today's meet were K Nilakanta, Shantiku-mari Nongthombi, Kh Japan, M Bhagat, Dr Kshetrimayum Dedrilkumar, Ningombam Rojit, and Raju Maibam.
