Imphal, September 26 2016:
The Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA)has resolved to boycott all the events or news conferences organised by Ukhrul based NGO known as FEELS and Khangkhui Khunou Village Authority with immediate effect.
In a statement, the scribes body urged the media fraternity of the district not to cover any event organised by the NGO and the village authority until the parties tender an apology regarding the threat and disrespect shown to the association some months back.
On April 29, 2016 at around 2 pm, one AC Johnson of Khangkhui Khunou who is also the director of FEELS allegedly barged into the office of the association at Viewland and verbally abused the joumalists present there for allegedly not turning up at a Yarra festival celebration held at the village on April 28 .
AC Johnson not only used disparaging words but also threatened the journalists.
It added that UDWJA had taken the incident as a deliberate affront to the collective media fraternity of the district.
On April 30, UDWJA in an emergency meeting resolved to bring the matter to the notice to Khangkhui Khunou/ Phungthar Village Authority so as to settle the matter within May 10, 2016 in order to maintain a cordial relation between the two parties in future.
On the contrary, AC Johnson remained obstinate and kept warning the journalists of ill consequences, let alone resolving the matter, the association said.
Continued disrespect to the journalists and failure to settle the matter within the stipulated deadline on the part of AC Johnson and Khangkhui Khunou/Phungthar Village Authority has compelled UDWJA to boycott the events organised by FEELS and the village authority.
