Imphal, November 22 2018:
Even though Imphal Municipal Corporation announced to boycott Manipur Sangai Festival 2018 yesterday, it has revoked its plan following an understanding with the State Tourism Department regarding the issue.
Speaking to a team of media persons at IMC conference hall, Mayor L Lokeshore informed that an understanding was reached following a talk between the Tourism Department officials and the Corporation.
The Mayor conveyed that the IMC workers have initiated cleaning and beautification works of Imphal, taking into consideration the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival (which has been showcassed internationally) as well as in the interest of the public.
He further claimed that there will be no obstruction or boycott of the festival from the side of the corporation.
He claimed that the Imphal Municipal Council and its corporators felt neglected as the organiser concerned seemed to not care about the role and responsibilities of IMC and its corporators.
Maintaining that the festival will turn out to be an unsightly view without the IMC's works, he conveyed that the authorities concerned have been urged to avoid such mistakes or misunderstanding in any future occasions, be it the Sangai festival or others.
Deputy Director of Tourism Department, M Kapajit said that the Department has been putting all efforts to make the festival memorable and grand.
However, there were some delays while delivering invitations, accreditation and other related notice/informations to some concerned party, he said.
Stating that the Tourism Department cannot be considered' as the sole organiser of the festival although it holds the major role, Kapajit informed that various Government Departments, stakeholders, Imphal Municipal Council are putting maximum support in ensuring the success of the festival.
He expressed hope that the rest of the public will also extend valuable assistance and contributions towards the success of the festival.
