Expressing deep concerned over the alleged constant threat and harassment meted out to Chingkham Kabui villagers by surrounding neighbours over land row, the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has affirmed that it would no longer remain a silent spectator over the illegal and inhumane activities perpetuated against the minority villagers by the surrounding villagers.
A statement issued by the general secretary of ZU (AMN) K Poushinglung pointed out that surrounding villagers had trespassed on the land of Chingkham on Dec 10.It alleged that over 100 nearby villagers armed with deadly weapons and tools put up bamboo fencing and levelled the ground for construction of dwelling houses at the north-western side of Chingkham hills.
Maintaining that such act of the nearby villagers was condemnable by peace loving people, the ZU said such act tends to invite communal enmities between the two communities.
Quoting the report of the village, the ZU statement asserted that Chingkham Kabui village has been in existence for the last 200 years.
The villagers occupy the land legally by paying hill house tax till 1984 and land revenue till date.
It stated that the villagers are genuine inhabitants of the scheduled land under Dag No 3062, Old CS Dag No 2116 of Village No 16-Lilong comprising an area of 9.5650 hectares of Chingkham Khul (Ingkhol class) recorded in the name of Khunbu, Khullakpa and Khulgi khunjasing vide patta No 1518 .
Questioning the idea behind attempting to distort the existence of Chingkham Kabui by intimidation and illegal litigation, the ZU advised the concerned not to repeat such kind of act which amounts to discrimination.
It further conveyed that the Zelinagrong people are behind the minority Chingkham Kabui through thick and thin while also affirming not to tolerate such illegal activities.
At the same time, the ZU (AMN) has also expressed gratitude to the concerned district administration for timely intervention in the matter.
It also appealed the concerned authorities to bring justice at the earliest so as to maintain conducive atmosphere and peaceful coexistence in and around Lilong area and the adjoining areas of Chingkham.
