Peace cyclist reaches Manipur

A pan-India cyclist paddling throughout the country in order to raise awareness about National integrity, communal harmony and social evils has finally reached Manipur.
Bhau Saheb Bhawar (44), a resident of Hashnabad village in Jalna district, Maharashtra, began his cycling journey in 1993.He resumed the same journey in 2007 after a brief stop the year before.
Bhau Saheb Bhawar, who has reached the State five times during his 23 years long cycling journey, told The Sangai Express that he began the journey after experiencing the hardships of arranging dowry for his sister's marriage.
He said, "Female infanticide and dowry system are prevalent in many parts of the country.
I started this cycle journey in order to put an end to these evils present in our society" .
"I also want to promote National integrity, communal harmony, peace and Swachh Bharat", he said.
Speaking about the State, he said that he has not seen or heard any cases about female infanticide or dowry related issues in Manipur adding that he would spread awareness about other pressing issues like integrity and communal unity along with message about drugs and its abuse.
"If the different communities keep fighting with one another, then the future of Manipur will be very grim", Bhau Saheb said.
He pointed out that it took him five days to reach Imphal from Jiribam adding that he had met Chief Minister O Ibobi during one of his earlier visit to Imphal in 2004 .
"I travelled through Tripura, Mizoram and Assam before reaching Manipur", he said and added that he planned to travel to Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh next.
