Kpi accident case solved, Ngamgouhao's speed limit campaign begins

The Kangpokpi accident case in which a speeding tanker killed a minor boy was resolved in the Customary Court of Kangpokpi Town Committee this afternoon after both the accused and victim's party signed an agreement in the presence of Kangpokpi Town Committee.
The accused and tanker owner's party represented by Priyokumar Singh paid an ex-gratia of Rs 5,00,000 to the victim's family and another Rs 2,00,000 for medical expense of the deceased father who had been admitted at District Hospital Kangpokpi and hospitalized in an unconscious state owing to the unfortunate incident yesterday.
The accused party also performed Kosa and Toltheh as per the Customary Law at the residence of the victim and paid one Traditional Gong and ear beads apart from wrapping a traditional shawl Pondum over the dead body of the minor boy.
The agreement was signed by Priyokumar Singh and N Pradip on behalf of the accused and tanker owners' party and Paohang Khongsai and Seipao Khongsai signed on behalf of the victim's family while Lunkhoseh Kipgen, Chairman KTC, Rev Y Haokip, Vice Chairman, KTC and Thangkhohao Hangshing, Chairman, Kangpokpi Ward No 9 signed as witnesses on the part of the KTC.
Meanwhile, considering the unsafe speeding of vehicles within the town, a local journalist and editor of Zalaileng weekly, Kaybie Chongloi initiated a campaign in the name of the deceased boy christened "Ngamgouhao's Speed Limit Campaign" in collaboration with Kangpokpi Youth Union and various other civil bodies supported by like-minded people, well-wishers, etc.
The campaign which began this afternoon along the National Highway in the heart of Kangpokpi town promote 20 Km/hour speed limit within the town area and gave message to all driver coming across the town by some volunteers of Ngamgouhao's Speed Limit Campaign.
It (the campaign) emphasised on the importance of human lives than a short speeding enjoyment while stressing on various risky factors of speeding not only in public places but all along the road.
It also appealed all the drivers of heavy and light vehicles including loaded trucks and convoy tankers, passenger's vehicles, private vehicles to maintain 20 Km/hour speed within the town areas from today.
The volunteers also appealed the drivers to strictly follow the speed limit and rendered cooperation towards the campaign for the welfare and safety of all including the drivers themselves.
"Drive slow and maintain speed limit within the town as your speed could put many innocent lives in danger", said the Campaign organizer while adding that let the innocent Ngamgouhao Khongsai be the eye opener for all and let us all unite in reducing road accident and contribute to save innocent lives in road mishap.
He also appealed that when people are about to enter the town area of Kangpokpi do remember that the speed limit is 20 Km/hour and strictly adhere to it whether you find volunteers implementing the speed limit or not while adding that street campaign for speed limit will continue for one week.
It sought the support and cooperation of District Administration, Town Administration, concerned authority, Police and the general public in its attempt to reduce road accident and bring safety drive along the National Highway.
It will also organize various traffic awareness in the form of rally, marathon, sticker stamping, photo campaign and awareness and other activities in future.
Meanwhile, Kangpokpi Youth Union expressed gratitude to all the youths of Kangpokpi town for their selfless support and cooperation and appreciated their unity while conveying gratitude to everyone involved in solving the accident case of yesterday.
